Located atop Second Mountain, this is an open area with a wide view looking both south and north from the ridge. The site overlooks State Game Lands 211 to the north and its southern view extends some 20 miles to South Mountain, with Lebanon Valley and Fort Indiantown Gap in-between. This is an ideal area for people with limited mobility, as the parking lot is also the Hawk Watch site. It is also suitable for lawn chairs. Members of the Quittapahilla Audubon Society are usually at the site on fall weekends to help with identification.
Best views when winds are out of the west or northwest.
From Interstate 81, take the Fort Indiantown Gap exit (from the north, exit 85, from the south, exit 85B) and go north on Fisher Avenue. Drive approximately one mile to Funck's Restaurant. Turn left and follow Hawk Watch signs to the top of 2nd Mountain. Turn right off Cold Spring Road (dirt road) go about 1/2 mile to the parking lot and watch site.
Caution: This site is partly on Pennsylvania State Game Lands 211 and is used by hunters in the fall and spring. (Peak hunting seasons are October-December all day, and May from sunrise to noon.) During this time, wear 250 square inches of blaze orange on the chest, head, and back.
